Heroes for Hydro
Our son Bennett was born premature at 23 weeks. Since 2018 he has had 13 surgeries and counting. The majority of his procedures have been caused by a rare condition called Hydrocephalus. Hydrocephalus is the abnormal buildup of fluid (cerebrospinal fluid) in the ventricles (cavities) deep within the brain. This excess fluid causes the ventricles to widen, putting extreme pressure on the brain’s tissues. The only known treatment today is to perform brain surgery, general inserting a shunt (tube) device or endoscopic third ventriculostomy (ETV). These current treatments are designed to repair a malfunctioning valve within the shunt on the infant/adult patient and in most cases the treatments require multiple brain surgeries.
Our mission is simple. To raise funds and awareness for clinical research in order to help improve and enhance the process for which we treat children/adult patients who encounter this rare and some cases fatal condition.
