Bio:
Angie lives in St. Louis, Missouri and is the youngest of five sisters. When Angie was younger, she began having respiratory issues and was diagnosed with asthma, leaving her mom, Fran, wondering what to do next.
While Angie is the only one of her sisters to have asthma, it runs in her family on her maternal side. After her diagnosis, Angie started doing breathing treatments twice a day to help prevent her asthma from flaring up.
Along with her mom helping her with at-home treatments, Angie also receives treatments from the St. Louis Children's Hospital's Healthy Kids Express asthma van. This free program makes it possible for kids with asthma, like Angie, to be treated by the St. Louis Children's care team outside of hospital walls and in their community.
After she's seen on the asthma van, a report is sent home to mom with any necessary updates or changes that need to be done with Angie's treatment.
From learning how to administer her breathing treatments to knowing how to use her asthma pump in case of an emergency, Angie feels confident about everything she's learned from her visits to the St. Louis Children's Healthy Kids Express asthma van. She continues to do two breathing treatments a day and watch out for things like pollen and certain air fresheners that can make her asthma flare up.
Today, Angie is an energetic 11-year-old, who loves to draw and is very caring and nurturing. She is in fifth grade and enjoys reading Junie B. Jones books and hanging out with her friends. With every visit and treatment to the Healthy Kids Express asthma van, Angie continues to get stronger and keep her asthma at bay.
